Each time a significant prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a clamor for introducing fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category during that awards season
- Another creative title received no nominations that year
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
- Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're small games, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games globally continuing this trend for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
