Comeback Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's first championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an improved serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first professional title, took control to force a third set.

The opponent rescued four early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
